Yamaha YZF R15 versus Yamaha FZ16

Yamaha Motors India had made a comeback in India by launching the 2 new bikes – Yamaha YZF R15 and the Yamaha FZ16. What i am going to do here is test these two vehicles and give a review on which one is a better choice in which factor. The YZF R15 is selling quite well and the sight of the bike is becoming quite common. But what about the recently launched FZ16?

The YZF R15′s engine is a 150cc liquid-cooled with electronic fuel engine. This engine produces an impressive 17bhp and torque of 15Nm. The FZ16′s engine is also a 150cc air-cooled engine producing a decent 14bhp and a good torque of 14Nm.

The YZF R15 looks great when one sees them from the front, the low stance, the faired body and the beautifully designed fuel tank. The bike looks small when compared to its competition! The fully faired body doesnt look nice with its skinny tyres, which is the greatest defect in its looks! The silencer looks great in the YZF R15 and the rear is accompanied by a nice tail light along with split grab rear holders.

Coming to the FZ16 styling, it lies nowhere behind the YZF R15, but i think is better than the R15, well that according to ones taste. But seriously i think this bike looks awesome. Starting off with the huge tyres at the rear and a good one in the front too equipped heavily with a wide mudguard. Again the awesome fuel tank that shapes up the overall posture of the body. The seats of the rear passenger is raised up for a better view and with split grab tail holders. The engine is painted all black which supports the colours available. Again the rear looks huge with the huge tyres and the raised rear seat. The tail light lies in the rear mudguard just above the number plate. Yamaha had embedded a sporty exhaust pipe that goes well with the overall “street” theme of the bike. All the 3 colours flaming orange, midnight black and lava red looks great live! But the problem with the bike is the “stickered like console” and the bland wide handlebar which reduces the fun a little.

When you sit on the R15 the first time, you will be completely disturbed by the position as it is bent really low! But once you get the feel of it, you’ll be on your way. But personally i think this bike is not all that comfortable when in the city during crowded situations, it handles really well, but you will feel the power, the performance only when you take it to a greater speed. The R15 is based mainly for the 20-30 years age group. But i wouldn’t possibly propose this bike to you if your work place is close by. Even if you buy it, take your bike once a week to the highways for a better feel. Its a great bike when it comes to high speeds.

First of all, its a bigger bike. The FZ16 is the real one to look for daily use. The bike has a good grip over the roads and the suspensions do a good job when met with pot-holes. The ride is really nice and response to throttle is also great. The YZ16 stance is great in such a way that anyone of any age can drive this without any pain. The noise made by the muffler provides a sporty feel. Your cant rip the YZ16 like you can do to the R15, because the R15 is much more powerful than the YZ16, but can do a good job considering the power it produces.

      Prices: (Showroom)

      Yamaha YZF R15 – Rs 97,000

      Yamaha FZ16 – Rs 65,000

The Fz16 is much more “value for money” than the YZF R15

      Verdict:

You are a college student or an IT professional or some other guy whose work place is quite far or you are performance-power hungry – GET the YZF R15!!

You are an entertainment geek, wants to show off, ride smoothly through the traffic, your workplace is close by, you like your back or wants styling with performance and mileage – GET the FZ16!!
