Renault To Launch All New Renault Megane in 2010

The third generation, 2009 Renault Megane, which was recently revealed, will be launched in India. The all new Megane will be produced in Renault-Nissan’s facility outside Chennai. Renault, which is selling through Mahindra will be launched through the Mahindra-Renault dealerships.

Renault came to India with the low-cost Logan and is planning to bring in its performance cars at an affordable price. The previous generation Megane was a success in Europe due to its diesel engine and price. Looking at the features of why it became a success, i couldn’t even think why it wouldn’t become a success in India too. We will have to see if they bring in the Megane hatch version or the Sedan version.

The Megane around the world will be equipped with a variety of engines, but what we can expect is the 1.6L petrol engine producing 110bhp, a 2.0L petrol engine producing 140bhp or the turbocharged 1.4L petrol engine producing 130bhp. Coming to the diesel variants, a 1.5L dCi engine producing 85bhp or the 20.L dCi engine producing 130bhp, can be expected.

The Megane comes in 5-speed, 6-speed and CVT transmission. What we have to do is wait for further details of which of these engines and transmissions they will be bringing.

The Megane hatch has a wheelbase of 2640mm and if there will be a sedan it will be stretched further to about 2700mm which will be competing with the Civic and Corolla.
